The academy players Jan Hemetzberger and Thilo Behrmann traveled to Zimbabwe three weeks ago to participate in two ITF tournaments in Bulawayo and earn important points for the ITF rankings.
In the first tournament week, Thilo Behrmann made it to the semifinals, where he was defeated by South African Rüdiger Dusselberg with a score of 4:6 6:3 2:6. In the second round, he easily defeated the number two seed South African Benjamin Scott 6:3 6:4. For Jan Hemetzberger, the first tournament week ended in the quarterfinals against top-seeded Serb Marko Milosavljevic with a score of 0:6 3:6.
In the second week, the academy players Behrmann and Hemetzberger qualified again for the main draw of the tournament. Thilo Behrmann, however, had bad luck with the draw and was assigned to the opponent from the previous week, Rudiger Dusselberg, in the first round. Unfortunately, there was no revenge for Wolfgang Thiem’s protégé and he ultimately lost after two tough sets. Jan Hemetzberger won in the first round against the local Makanaka Whata with a score of 6:3 6:4, before facing the seeded South African Cuan Western in the second round. Here again, Hemetzberger showed his skills and won easily with a score of 6:4 6:3. In the quarterfinals, he also faced the opponent from the previous week and had to take a defeat once again to the top-seeded Serbian, Milosavljevic.
