Thilo Behrmann Takes Silver at the European Olympic Youth Games – Oberpullendorf Becomes a Tennis Mecca with Charity Event

July was a month for celebration for the Tennis Academy Burgenland, finding itself at the center of several outstanding events.

Silver at the European Olympic Youth Games

Thilo Behrmann, a squad player of the Tennis Academy Burgenland, achieved an impressive performance at the “European Olympic Youth Festival” in Maribor. The 15-year-old, who has made Oberpullendorf his home base, demonstrated his class throughout the tournament and made it to the finals. With commanding victories over players from Azerbaijan, Hungary, and Luxembourg, he catapulted himself into the quarterfinals, where he also defeated the Slovenian local hero Ziga Sesko. In the semifinals, Behrmann overcame German Niels McDonald before falling to Italian Vito Antonio Darderi in the finals.

Tennis Academy Coach, Sebastian Beutel, who was also present as a support on site, praised the youngster for his performance, emphasizing the great potential in Thilo. The silver medal is a tremendous success, and Behrmann is celebrated as one of Austria’s greatest future hopes in tennis.

ÖTV National Championships and Charity Doubles Tournament in Oberpullendorf

In Sport-Hotel-Kurz in Oberpullendorf, another significant tennis event took place: the “win2day” ÖTV National Championships as well as the ÖTV Wheelchair Tennis National Championships, combined with a Charity Doubles Tournament. The proceeds of the tournament went to the Burgenland umbrella organization for women’s, girls’, and family counseling centers (DAFF).

Sports State Councilor Heinrich Dorner praised the good cooperation between the organizer, the Burgenland and Austrian Tennis Federation, and commended Oberpullendorf’s dynamic development. He stressed that the city has become the tennis mecca of Burgenland through the Tennis Academy Burgenland under the leadership of Wolfgang Thiem. His expertise and vision have significantly contributed to the academy’s positive development and reputation.

ÖTV President Martin Ohneberg thanked the good interplay between the state of Burgenland and the sponsors, and highlighted the importance of Oberpullendorf as the venue for the Austrian Championships.

The Tennis Academy Burgenland has had a remarkable month, crowned by the silver medal of academy player Thilo Behrmann and a successful charity event that ties sport to social responsibility. The academy continues to focus on the development of young talents and significantly contributes to the promotion of tennis in Burgenland.
